LASU Emerges Best University in Nigeria & West Africa

Lagos State University (LASU) won the 2022 UI GreenMetrics global ranking for Best University in Nigeria and West Africa.

In the newly issued 2022 UI GreenMetrics worldwide Ranking, Lagos State University was named the Best University in Nigeria and the West African sub-region. The organisation, which ranked 1050 universities from across the world on green environment metrics, also ranked LASU at number 799 globally and the 15th best overall in Africa, trailing 14 Egyptian universities.

The UI GreenMetric World University Ranking was established in 2010 by Universitas Indonesia as a ranking of green campuses and environmental sustainability. UI GreenMetric World University Rankings carefully determined the rankings by universities’ environmental commitment and projects using 39 factors in 6 criteria.

It is the first time LASU has participated in the ranking, which according to the organisers employs 39 indicators and 6 criteria in grading entrants, namely Setting and Infrastructure (SI), Energy and Climate Change (EC), Waste (WS), Water (WR), Transportation (TR), and Education (ED).

Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, mni, the Vice Chancellor, has expressed her delight at the rating, calling it a milestone in her aim to make LASU the finest in West Africa. She commended the entire university community on their accomplishment and expressed gratitude to the Lagos State Government, led by Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwoolu, for allowing her administration to succeed.

The Vice-Chancellor further stated that the university would not cease in implementing the necessary policies, strategies, and infrastructures to position LASU as the best in the sub-region in all other ranking indices.
